Integrated Plan for Environmental Improvement of Lake Billings Catchment Area

Project Features
Rehabilitation, upgrading and expansion of the water supply, sanitation and sewerage systems on Caye Caulker to meet the demand in year 2020 to achieve efficient and sustainable provision of the services that will be consistent with the overall objectives of the Coastal Zone Management Program, particularly on the conservation and sustainable use of the Barrier Reef Complex.

Scope of Services
Review and analysis of the existing condition of the water supply and sanitation/sewerage systems on Caye Caulker; inventory of the currently used service units/components including their capacities and conditions, financial, institutional and physical operation and maintenance systems; preparation of feasibility studies and preliminary designs including cost estimates for the rehabilitation, upgrading and expansion of the water supply and sanitation/sewerage systems to be implemented by stages; preparation of the terms of reference for detailed design and preparation of tender documents construction and construction supervision; preparation of a detailed budget and cost estimates; conduct of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment; and analysis of the impact of the project on low-income groups.

Sao Paulo City Solid Waste Management Study

Project Features
Formulation of solid waste management program for Sao Paulo City with a population of approximately 11 million generating some 15,000 t/day of solid waste which has become a serious problem in terms of treatment and disposal; development of information, education and communication (IEC) system for schools and communities.

Scope of Services
Evaluation of existing solid waste management conditions; preparation of three-year action plan including related activities such as seminars and workshops and the development of educational kits, communication tools and information system.

Upper and Middle Tiete River Basin Mathematical Model

Project Features
Development and dissemination of a three-dimensional hydrodynamic mathematical model of water quality in the Tiete River, a major source of water supply which crosses the State of Sao Paulo and receives most of the sewage generated by the densely populated Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region affecting the water quality of the Billings and Barra Bonita reservoirs and endangering the health of 8 million residents; improvement of local institutions’ management of water resources through the use of open-source and user friendly applications and technologies; technology transfer and training for system owners and users to improve user participation

Scope of Services
Selection of model and design including identification, analysis and reconciliation of existing models; preliminary calibration including assembly and consolidation of the database; monitoring of hydraulic and hydrological data; intensive monitoring of water quality; quantification of pollution loads to a degree of qualitative and quantitative discreteness compatible with that of the model; training in mathematical modeling of water quality in rivers and reservoirs; training in the use of the selected model, databank, and interface for visualization of the results
